Sam rues striker absences
20 Apr 2009 - 11:46:52
Sam Allardyce has admitted Blackburn Rovers are "lightweight" up front in the continue absence of Roque Santa Cruz and Jason Roberts.
The struggling Ewood Park outfit lost 1-0 at Stoke City on Saturday to remain just one place above the drop zone.
Santa Cruz is currently sidelined with a knee problem and Roberts an ankle injury and Allardyce has admitted their absence is a major concern ahead of the final five matches in their season.
Ahead of next weekend's home clash with Wigan Athletic, he told the club's official website: "It is a long wait until next Sunday but we've got to be patient, we've got to keep our nerve and we've got to keep our way out of trouble.
"At this stage of the season when we are all wanting the points that we have to get to be safe.
"And if you look at the games that we've got coming they are very winnable matches, particularly our home games.
"But it is going to be harder than we expected because of the loss of Roque and Jason of course and I think that showed against Stoke because we were too lightweight up front.
"We've got to keep working, we've got to look at the situation and pick a side that can go out and create more opportunities to score goals at Ewood and create an atmosphere where we want to try and win and try our best to create chances and to try and get three points."
