Sam pleased to banish drop fears

Sam Allardyce believes Wednesday's 2-1 victory against Birmingham City has ensured that his Blackburn Rovers team will be playing in the Premier League once again next season.

Rovers look set for a mid-table finish after David Dunn's brace proved to be too much for the visitors although Allardyce confirmed after the match that the midfielder had been involved in a half-time slanging match with team-mate Michel Salgado.

Dunn could miss this weekend's game against Burnley after being caught by both Steven Carr and Barry Ferguson, with Allardyce saying: "I was disappointed Mark Clattenburg didn't protect him more. At the end Barry Ferguson just kicked him after Stephen Carr's poor challenge.

"It was David Dunn's outstanding quality that was the difference for us tonight though and, while we aren't mathematically safe, I think that will be enough for us to look upwards and see how well we can finish.

"Whether David makes Burnley we will wait and see. He will tell me he is alright but he won't make the decision, me and my medical staff will.

"We don't want him fatigued so he picks up another injury to keep him out for a while. If we don't feel he is right, we won't risk him and will put him on the bench.

"I'm not sure what happened between David and Michel. There was a bit of a tussle in the dressing room and we had to calm it down. But it is okay to have that bit of friction."
