    Sam hopes for momentum

    05 Feb 2009 - 08:04:09

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce hopes Wednesday's FA Cup win over Sunderland can improve their league form.

Benni McCarthy's goal deep into extra-time secured a 2-1 fourth round replay success for Rovers.

David Healy had fired Sunderland into an early lead before Aaron Mokoena equalised to take the tie into extra-time.

Rovers face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday and Allardyce is hoping to build on their momentum.

"I want us to build on this victory and keep that winning habit. Let's go on from here," he said.

"Of course it will be very difficult against Villa but we are growing in confidence. There is a lot of quality in our squad.

"Hopefully we can give them a hard game and come out of it with something to show for our efforts."

Meanwhile, Allardyce believes McCarthy is beginning to find top form after benefiting from an extended run in the starting line-up.

"Benni has started a few games and got a few goals in the process," he added.

"He had been frustrated at his lack of starts but it is difficult with three quality frontmen.

"I am really pleased about the creativity in the team but a little bit disappointed we are not scoring more."
