Sam: Trapattoni out of order
23 Oct 2009 - 13:15:13
Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has leapt to the defence of Steven Reid after claiming the midfielder is due an apology from Giovanni Trapattoni.
Republic of Ireland boss Trapattoni has angered Allardyce after expressing doubts over whether the injury-plagued midfielder would be able to make a full recovery from his latest knee problem.
The 28-year-old Londoner has made just two appearances for the Ewood Park club this season and earlier in the week had spoken of his shock at his international manager's comments.
"I think it is disgraceful that a manager from an international side comes out with such drivel and such nonsense," said Allardyce.
"I think he should make a public apology to Steven and this football club for trying to undermine one of our contracted players who has had some really hard times recently trying to overcome this injury."
"He was totally wrong with his statements, that is not the case with Steven, and it is very damaging for a young man who is trying his best to start playing again, secure a new contract and force his way back in the Republic of Ireland side."
