Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce will not rush Michel Salgado into the hurly-burly of English football too quickly.
The 33-year-old former Real Madrid star moved to Ewood Park last week but Allardyce is wary of forcing the 53-times capped Spain international to make his Rovers debut before he is ready.
The former Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United boss told his club's official website: "Salgado won't be ready for a few weeks yet.
"There's no point in trying to thrust him in unless we're absolutely desperate.
"As great and as experienced a player as he is, it's a major thing to cope with the Premier League when you get here from abroad, and we have to get him physically conditioned to cope with that."
