Blackburn Rovers have confirmed their intention to offer evergreen midfielder Tugay a new 12-month contract.
The 37-year-old former Turkey international, who has spent the last seven seasons at Ewood Park, will be offered a deal that could also see him join manager Mark Hughes' backroom staff.
"It is great news for everybody," Rovers chairman John Williams told the Blackburn Evening Telegraph.
"Clearly, Tugay has established a strong link with the club.
"It's a playing contract and he will remain part of the playing squad, but there could be an opportunity for him to move into the coaching side of things."
The former Galatasaray and Glasgow Rangers midfielder has made over 220 appearances for the Lancashire club despite being used sparingly in recent seasons.
Meanwhile, Rovers have released out-of-contract trio Peter Enckelman, Stephane Henchoz and Bruno Berner.
Goalkeeper Enckelman has spent part of the past season on loan at Cardiff City, while Henchoz and Berner have barely featured in the first team for the past two years.
