Rovers slammed by Allardyce
14 Apr 2009 - 07:33:13
Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce blasted his side for failing to follow orders during their decisive 4-0 defeat at Liverpool.
Allardyce decided to field Christopher Samba as a lone striker at Anfield ans was angry that his midfielders failed to offer proper support.
He told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "I don't think we did enough to stop the opposition and I don't think we gave Chris Samba enough help.
"That was part of our key plan, but it never worked. Not that Chris Samba didn't do his job, because he did, but we let Liverpool pick up the second ball around him.
"I didn't think we could play to Benni McCarthy's strengths against this Liverpool side. I watched them on Wednesday and I watched Didier Drogba make a big difference for Chelsea.
"We tried to play the same. I know we haven't got the same players as Chelsea, but we can still get players in and around them.
"Chris Samba was a master in the job we wanted him to do, but he had no support from his team-mates.
"It was a game-plan the rest of the team decided to ignore. We didn't have the desire and determination to beat Liverpool in that area."
