    Rovers listen to Bentley bids

    21 Jul 2008 - 14:53:25

David Bentley has moved a step closer to the exit door after Blackburn Rovers admitted for the first time that they will listen to offers for the unsettled midfielder.

Bentley, 23, informed Rovers earlier in the summer of his wish to quit Ewood Park after three seasons with the club.

The England international cited his desire to play Champions League football for his reason to seek a move and, at the time, Rovers made no comment on the future of the former Arsenal trainee.

Last week, chairman John Williams revealed he had received and rejected two bids - believed to be from Aston Villa and Tottenham - for the wantaway midfielder.

But Williams has now admitted for the first time that the club are ready to part company with Bentley should they receive a suitable offer.

"Contrary to speculation in the media, we haven't put a price on David's head because we don't work like that," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"The situation is we've had two bids for David, both of which have been rejected.

"However, if we got a bid that was in line with current market values, then we'll refer it to (manager) Paul Ince and it becomes a football decision after that.

"As I've said all along, we're under no financial pressure to sell, because David's only one year into a four-year contract."
