Rovers fined for fracas

The Football Association has fined Blackburn Rovers for failing to control their players in the 1-0 victory at Newcastle United in March.

Rovers were warned as to their future conduct and fined £10,000, of which £7,500 was suspended until 31 May 2009.

Matt Derbyshire scored a last-gasp winner for Mark Hughes' side at St James' Park, but the game would also be remembered for a remarkable bust-up between Habib Beye and Morten Gamst Pedersen over a disputed throw-in.

The incident led to approximately a dozen players and staff from both clubs getting involved as the pair grappled on the touchline.

A brief statement on the FA's official website read: "The Commission found the club guilty of failing to ensure that their players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion."
