Rovers deny Popov deal has been agreed

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has denied that Bulgaria international Ivelin Popov has already agreed a deal with the club.

The 22-year-old's current club, Litex Lovech, had claimed that a deal had all but been finalised, but Williams insists such talk is premature.

Popov has been on trial at Ewood Park this week, but Williams said: "He is one of a number of strikers currently under consideration. We have not made an offer to his club."

Popov scored eight goals in 19 appearances for Litex Lovech last season and has made 15 international appearances, scoring three goals.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bolster a strikeforce which struggled for goals last season but may not necessarily be signing a player who has been linked with moves to Manchester City and Sunderland in the past.

Meanwhile, Colombian striker Edixon Perea continues to be linked with Rovers while former Manchester City striker Benjani is training with the club.

However, Allardyce's interest in SK Brann's Norwegian striker Erik Huseklepp has cooled.
