Rovers complete Givet deal

Blackburn Rovers have completed the permanent signing of Gael Givet from Olympique Marseille.

Rovers, whose transfer kitty has been boosted by the £18million sale of Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City earlier this week, is the first summer signing made by manager Sam Allardyce.

The France international has joined the Ewood Park outfit on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee following a successful loan spell with the club last season.

The 27-year-old full-back made 18 league and cup appearances after arriving on loan in January.

Speaking earlier in the month, Rovers chairman John Williams revealed that a deal to sign the versatile defender was on the verge of completion.

"There were one or two things we had to work on," said Williams.

"We're close as the terms have been agreed. But it's never done until all the signatures are on the papers."
