Blackburn Rovers' star striker Roque Santa Cruz's faces around two weeks out of action due to a nagging calf injury.
The 27-year-old Paraguay international had to pull out of the 3-2 midweek defeat at Aston Villa after suffering tightness in his leg during the warm-up and Rovers are keen not to lose Santa Cruz for a lengthy period.
A subsequent scan on the injury revealed a grade one calf tear that means the South American is definitely out of the weekend clash with West Bromwich Albion.
Assistant manager, Ray Mathias, told the club's official website: "Roque was feeling his calf from training on Monday and Tuesday.
"Unfortunately it started to reoccur again, so we felt not playing him was the right thing to do and unfortunately he had to pull out after the warm-up before the (Villa) game.
"We've got to make sure that Roque is right, we've got to be very careful with calfs and hamstrings, we can't afford to play him in a game and lose him for five or six.
"It is important that we do it right and make sure that he is right and that he can come and play ten games on the run for us and that is what we want Roque Santa Cruz for.
"You don't want to take risks if you don't have to, we've got good players in the squad that can come in and do a job."
