Roberts shocked by honour

The 31-year-old centre forward was given the award for his charitable work through his Jason Roberts Foundation that operates both in the UK and the Caribbean. "I'm very humbled by the award really," Roberts told the club's official website. "I think it is in recognition of all the hard work that other people have put into the charity as well as myself, so yes I'm very humbled by the award. "I started the Jason Roberts Foundation and the award is in recognition of the work done in the UK and in Grenada. "It was a total surprise, you just don't expect something like that to happen, you don't what you do to get recognition in that way. "Anything I've done for the Jason Roberts Foundation I've done for the kids, and for the projects we believe in. "To get this is recognition for all the hard work done by a lot of people, not just myself, and also all the other footballers who get involved in charity work and giving their time for things that don't get acknowledged." Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce said Roberts was a shining example of how many footballers have put their spare time to good use. "It's magnificent. From his point of view it is a great honour for him for all the work he has done with his foundation," Allardyce said. "There is a lot of negativity around the world of football about what players do and don't do and most of it is on the down side in the papers. "This is one of the up sides, much charity work that goes on by people like Jason and many, many others."
