Robbo plays down England chances

The 29-year-old former Tottenham goalkeeper won the last of his 41 caps in the European Championship qualifier defeat away to Russia in November 2007. Since then, Scott Carson, Ben Foster, Joe Hart and most recently West Ham's Robert Green have all offered a challenge to David James for the number one slot. Foster is out of contention for the World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Belarus, but James returns after missing five successive internationals and will probably start. However England manager Fabio Capello was at Arsenal on Sunday to watch Robinson in action, and while the keeper was beaten no fewer than six times by the rampant Gunners, he also produced a number of fine saves. Robinson, though, will focus on producing the goods on a regular basis for his club, rather than get too wrapped up in his chances to be on the plane to South Africa next summer. "I am concentrating on my own performances, it is just about playing well," he said. "It is about consistency, playing well, consistently well and turning in good performances for Blackburn. "I am on the fringes of the England squad at the moment. "The majority of time I have been getting in. "But I am just enjoying my football again, concentrating on my performances and just focusing on myself. Anything else which comes with it is a bit of a bonus." Robinson maintained: "I am trying not to think too much about it and put too much emphasis on it. "If it comes along, I will just go with it and see where it takes me again."
