Reid's back blow

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid looks set to be sidelined until February after a scan revealed that he has suffered a stress fracture of the back.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international scored in Rovers' pre-season win over New Zealand and played in the first three matches of the campaign against Portsmouth, Everton and Chelsea.

However, he has not played since picking up the problem in the friendly international against Germany at the beginning of September.

Rovers boss Mark Hughes had said of Reid's injury problems "Steve's still having pain in his back. He's going for another scan.

"Hopefully that will be more conclusive and we can get right down to the problem.

"We want it resolved one way or the other. We need to know exactly what the problem is and hopefully this next scan will do that."
