Passing pleases Hughes
30 Sep 2007 - 09:54:52
Blackburn boss Mark Hughes thought his side thoroughly deserved their 2-1 victory at Sunderland.
Two goals in two second-half minutes by David Bentley and Roque Santa Cruz secured victory for Rovers who never looked like letting the three points slip out of their grasp despite Grant Leadbitter's late consolation goal for the Black Cats.
Hughes said: "I thought we were good value today. We played well and created chances.
"This is always a difficult place to come, so it is important, if you can, to dictate the tempo of the game and take the sting out of the opposition, and we did that.
"It is always important to try to keep the crowd quiet because they need little encouragement to get behind their team.
"I wanted my team to dictate the tempo and I felt we did that with the quality of our passing.
"We had good angles to our passing to get good players into good areas in between the lines, and we caused Sunderland a problem.
"They struggled with our movement and it was difficult for them to get a foothold in the game and gain some momentum.
"In the second half, we got two quick goals and from that point, we were very comfortable and never looked like losing the game - apart from when we conceded at the end."
