Parreira urges Benni to leave

Benni McCarthy has been urged to leave Blackburn Rovers by South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.

The 32-year-old said earlier in the month that he was keen to exit Ewood Park after growing frustrated with a lack of first-team starts and Parreira has backed that thought process.

Portsmouth, Ajax and FC Porto have all been linked with McCarthy who is concerned that a lack of action will force him to miss next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

Parreira said: "I cannot speak on his behalf but I heard him say that in the January transfer window he will decide on a new direction in his career.

"Maybe he should go to a club where he can play because I don't think a player like him would be happy to be in the reserves and not playing and coming to the national team out of shape because of this.

"So, if he wants my advice I think he should look for a club where he can play."
