New Rovers deal for Emerton

Blackburn Rovers have handed versatile midfielder Brett Emerton a new four-year contract.

The 29-year-old Australia international has made over 200 appearances for the club following his arrival from Feyenoord in 2003 and will now remain at Ewood Park until summer 2012.

Emerton can play at either right-back or on the right-hand side of midfield and has made over 65 international appearances for the Socceroos.

"This is great news for the club," chairman John Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"Brett has been an excellent servant over the last five years and we're delighted to have agreed a deal which keeps him here for another four years.

"He's a very willing member of the squad and a real club man."
