Nelsen extends Rovers stay
05 Jul 2007 - 08:51:04
Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen has pledged his long-term future to the club by signing a new five-year contract at Ewood Park.
The 29-year-old New Zealand international centre-half has impressed since joining Rovers in January 2005 from DC United, despite suffering a number of injury problems.
Nelsen had been linked with a summer move away from Ewood Park, but Rovers have now tied their skipper to the club until the summer of 2012.
Boss Mark Hughes told the club's official website: "I'm delighted for the club and for Ryan. He's my captain and will be very influential in helping to shape the progress of the club."
Rovers chief executive, John Williams, added: "Ryan is a top man on and off the field. The positive impact of this deal cannot be underestimated."
Nelsen has made 75 appearances for Rovers to date, but has yet to open his goalscoring account for the Ewood Park club.
