Blackburn Rovers midfielder Aaron Mokoena could be facing a lengthy spell out of action after suffering a suspected broken leg in the 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Portsmouth.
The 26-year-old South African had been earmarked to fill in for the injured Robbie Savage, but could now be ruled out himself after being stretchered off at Fratton Park.
Rovers boss Mark Hughes told the club's official website: "He went off after treatment and obviously felt well enough to come back on, but then collapsed under weight of his own leg.
"You obviously don't like to see that and we can only hope that it doesn't prove to be as serious as it looked initially.
"We are having to wait until he's assessed to see how serious it is, but it doesn't look good.
"When he first walked off for treatment it looked like just a bang, but he's had a broken leg before."
