McCarthy desperate to move on
02 Nov 2009 - 13:56:53
South Africa international Benni McCarthy is desperate to leave Blackburn Rovers in the January transfer window, according to the striker's agent.
The 31-year-old has not started a Premier League match for Sam Allardyce's side since the opening weekend of the season, although he has featured in two Carling Cup games - against Nottingham Forest and Peterborough United.
McCarthy has been linked with a loan move to Portsmouth and his representative Rob Moore has now confirmed that the forward is keen to leave.
He told KickOff.com: "Yes, Benni wants to leave Blackburn.
"He has not been given the chance to show his worth this season in the Premiership and there's no denying that it seems like he is not the type of player Sam Allardyce is looking for.
"This has been a bad season at Blackburn for both Elrio (Van Heerden) and Benni - neither seem to be the kind of player that fits into the Blackburn system and both need to move on in January."
