Kean delaying Hoilett negotiations
Published : 22 Mar 2011 12:30:14
Blackburn manager Steve Kean wants to tie in-form forward Junior Hoilett to a long-term deal but will not begin negotiations until the summer. The 20-year-old has been one of Rovers' best players in recent weeks, scoring in his past two matches and hitting four in his past nine as well as impressing with his overall performances.Hoilett's current contract expires in just over a year's time but Kean does not want to risk disrupting the youngster's form by beginning discussions about extending it. He does, however, admit there is a risk the Canadian-born forward's displays may have already alerted rivals to his talents."I hope other clubs don't start looking at Junior but I wouldn't be surprised because he is certainly a match winner," he told the Lancashire Telegraph. "As a full-back seeing him run at you and get at you in the box you should be petrified because he can move that ball and do anything with it."What we don't want to do is get into contract negotiations now and take away from that type of performance. Sometimes that can give him something else to think about that is not required."Let's just keep him playing like that. Come the end of the season we can sit him down and hopefully sort out a long-term deal for him."
