Ince: Roque wants to remain

17 Oct 2008 - 14:52:57

Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince believes Roque Santa Cruz is happy at Ewood Park despite fresh reports of a January move to Manchester City.

Santa Cruz's agent released a statement during the international break denying that his client had revealed a desire to join the Citizens while talking on South American radio.

The Paraguay striker signed a new four-year contract in August and Ince believes that indicates his commitment to the Ewood Park club.

"Roque isn't one to rock the boat," he said. "If that was the case he'd have gone before the start of the season.

"He's said he loves it at Blackburn and if he wasn't here he'd have signed a new four-year contract a few weeks ago.

"But we're only a few weeks away from January and it's now that all the speculation starts.

"If there was an issue he'd have come to see me and he hasn't done that - so I presume he's happy."

Meanwhile, Ince has revealed his disappointment after learning Republic of Ireland midfielder Steven Reid will not play again this season due to a recurrence of a knee injury.

"It's a massive blow because Reidy is an integral part of my side," he added.

"He's got great experience and he's great around the camp.

"I'm gutted for him because he's a great lad and great pro who gives his all for the club. He's disappointed, and we're all disappointed.

"It's sad and it seems to be one thing after another for him."
