Hughes rues two lost points
09 Mar 2008 - 11:47:21
Mark Hughes admitted Blackburn Rovers' European hopes had been severely dented by Saturday's failure to overcome lowly Fulham.
Jimmy Bullard curled home a last-minute free-kick to snatch a precious point for the struggling Cottagers after Morten Gamst Pedersen's opener had looked to be enough for Rovers to take all three points.
However, after dropping two points and failing to significantly close the gap on Aston Villa in sixth place, Hughes revealed his frustration.
"We're annoyed that we haven't been able to get maximum points," he said.
"We were in a position to see the game out but conceded a free-kick in a poor area and they've taken a point from the game.
"At 1-0 I felt that we should have been able to see the game out, but at times we threw caution to the wind trying to get a second.
"Maybe at times we're too keen to get on the front foot and attack teams when we need to be a little bit more professional.
"We set a target of 64 points (to qualify for the UEFA Cup). Any other year it would absolutely guarantee European football, but it doesn't look like it will be the case this season.
"But we'll keep going. We won't let our season peter out."
