Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes admitted his side looked rusty in Sunday's InterToto Cup success against Lithuanian side FK Vetra.
Benni McCarthy and Matt Derbyshire netted as Rovers secured a 2-0 win, but the victory was not without several alarms.
Hughes said after the game: "We're happy with the result. It was a good win for us.
"We're very early in our preparation and I think at times that showed, but we're grateful that we've been able to not concede any goals and win the game 2-0.
"I did try and say before the game that we felt it would be a difficult game, because of the different stages of preparation that both teams had.
"They will all be better for the game and I'm sure our performance will improve as a consequence."
The two teams play the return leg at Ewood Park on Saturday with Rovers overwhelming favourites to reach the qualifying stage of the UEFA Cup.
