Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy's season may not be over even though he missed the 1-0 win at
Portsmouth with a hamstring injury.
The South Africa international, who signed a new three-year Ewood Park deal last week, picked up the injury in training and was omitted from the 16-man squad that made the long trip to the South Coast.
However, Rovers boss Mark Hughes has played down the injury, telling the club's official website: "He just pulled up very late in the session on Saturday and has just tweaked his hamstring.
"But we're hoping that it's just a little bit of tightness in there and that he hasn't actually pulled anything.
"So we'll check on him this week but we're hopeful that he'll get some of the matches that we have left.
"We want Benni fit and well, we want everyone fit and well going into these games. I've got to have as many options that are available to me because that obviously helps our situation.
"We hope Benni will come through and be available to us."
