Hughes: Bentley stays put
26 Jan 2008 - 10:40:07
Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has dismissed speculation linking England midfielder David Bentley with a big-money move to Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old winger is a reported target for new Magpies boss Kevin Keegan, but Hughes is keen to tie Bentley down to a new contract at Ewood Park.
He told Sky Sports News: "David's situation is that he is signed as a Blackburn player.
"There is always speculation about good players. David is a good player, but he won't be going anywhere.
"He signed a new contract 12 months ago, but obviously in that time he has pushed for international call-ups and so we will reflect that.
"But we have got a situation at Blackburn where the vast majority of our club is tied up for the next three years and David is one of those players. We are not a club that has to sell."
Bentley has scored 20 goals in 118 appearances for Rovers since his arrival from Arsenal in the summer of 2005.
