Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince is believed to be on the verge of offering former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler a short-term deal at Ewood Park.
The 33-year-old will pen a pay-as-you-play deal with Rovers and is expected to stay with the club until Christmas.
Fowler has been with Rovers since July and took part in the pre-season tours of Germany of Portugal.
He is a free agent after leaving Cardiff City earlier in the year and has scored 230 goals in 504 games so far in his career.
Meanwhile, Ince has handed a trial to the former Ajax winger Kiran Bechan.
Chairman John Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "We've had a few players on trial and it's a great way of seeing players.
"It's difficult though this week, as was last week, with most of the squad away on international duty. People who are without a club can join between transfer windows so we'll continue looking at triallists like Bechan."
The 25-year-old has had a varied career having enjoyed spells with Dutch clubs Sparta Rotterdam, Groningen and Den Bosch, as well as Spanish side Hercules.
