FA conduct charge for Rovers
10 Mar 2008 - 12:11:14
Blackburn Rovers have been charged with failing to control their players and officials following an altercation during the 1-0 win at Newcastle United earlier this month.
Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen was involved in a fracas with Newcastle's Habib Beye during the clash at St James' Park on March 1.
The pair were involved in an argument over a throw-in before players and coaching staff from both sides became embroiled in a melee.
"Blackburn Rovers have been charged with misconduct for the actions of their players and officials during a match against Newcastle United," read a Football Association statement.
"Blackburn have until March 25 to respond to the charge."
After the match, which was settled by a late Matt Derbyshire winner, Rovers boss Mark Hughes blamed Senegal international full-back Beye for the incident.
"At the end of the day, it was our throw-in and we wanted to take it quickly, but the lad stopped us from doing that and then took exception to us trying to get the ball off him," he said.
"I thought it was unnecessary and he then caused a situation where Morten got booked, and that should never have happened in my view."
