Emerton knee woe for Rovers
02 Feb 2009 - 14:19:05
Blackburn Rovers have been dealt a blow with the news that Brett Emerton will not play again this season.
Emerton, 29, was injured during Saturday's goalless draw with Middlesbrough and scans have confirmed serious knee ligament damage.
"The Aussie international has suffered cruciate knee ligament damage and is expected to be sidelined for six months," read a club statement.
Emerton has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season and his absence is a blow to Rovers boss Sam Allardyce.
Fellow midfielder Steven Reid has already been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with a similar knee injury.
Meanwhile, Rovers are reported to be happy to keep hold of Roque Santa Cruz unless Manchester City up their offer to around £20million.
City have seen several bids - the latest believed to be £18million - rejected by the Ewood Park club for the Paraguay striker.
