Dunn blow strikes Rovers
19 Sep 2008 - 11:04:41
Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn has been ruled out for the next four months with an Achilles injury.
The 27-year-old has missed the last two games with the problem and has now been told he requires surgery.
Dunn had started the new campaign in impressive form after scoring in the opening day 3-2 victory over Everton.
"It is disappointing news for Dunny," manager Paul Ince told the club's official website.
"We had given him an injection a couple of weeks ago in the hope that it might do the trick, but it isn't getting there so we've no option but to put him under the knife.
"It is a massive blow to us, but also for the lad himself as he has been fantastic.
"To lose someone like Dunn is a kick in the ribs, but we'll have to get on with it."
Meanwhile, Rovers will also be without fellow midfielder Vince Grella for two weeks with the Australia international still troubled by a calf strain.
