Chelsea boss Ancelotti heads home again on mercy mission for sick dad

Carlo Ancelotti is returning to Italy on a mercy mission to be with his seriously-ill father. The Chelsea manager missed training last week to be with Giuseppe, 86, but was back at Stamford Bridge to mastermind their 5-0 thrashing of Blackburn. Ancelotti claimed last night's win - the club's biggest in the Barclays Premier League for nearly a year - represented the best performance of his reign. Joe Cole returned to make his first start in the league for nine months and Chelsea are back on top, piling the pressure on second-placed Manchester United, who face Liverpool today. Ancelotti said: 'It has been a very difficult week but that is life and I hope my father will be better. 'We have a free day on Sunday and I will return on Monday but I think my father will be better. These are difficult times but I think after Monday things will be better for him and I hope I can stay here, quietly and without a problem.' Life at Chelsea is, at least, simple for Ancelotti. Their win had Sam Allardyce insisting his Blackburn side were 'pathetic', but the Italian relished the way his players bounced back after defeat at Aston Villa last weekend. 'We had a good solution to the setplays,' said Ancelotti. 'We had a better defence and we have scored three goals in two games from them including Atletico Madrid. We have improved very quickly.' A Gael Givet own goal got Chelsea up and running against Blackburn and Frank Lampard scored twice - including his first from open play in the League since April - with Michael Essien and Didier Drogba also on the scoresheet. After such a dominant performance, Sir Alex Ferguson will know there is no room for error from his United team at Anfield today. Ancelotti said: 'It was the best since I came to Chelsea. It was a pleasure to watch.' Cole, who lasted 77 minutes and was hugged by Ancelotti when he came off, said: 'Just to get back on the pitch training is great so to come back in a game like that is fantastic.'
