Blades sweat on Kenny appeal

15 Oct 2009 - 15:05:56

Sheffield United remain hopeful that goalkeeper Paddy Kenny can have his nine-month drugs ban reduced on appeal.

The positive test for ephedrine has been proven to be the result of taking an over-the-counter chest medicine so the Professional Footballers' Association will appear for a reduction of the ban on the grounds of 'disproportionate' punishment.

"He is not looking to overturn the decision as a whole but it is fair to say that he wishes to see the length of time he is out for lowered," the PFA's assistant chief executive John Bramhall explained to The Star newspaper.

Even if Kenny has his ban reduced by a number of months, manager Kevin Blackwell could still attempt to keep on-loan Blackburn Rovers stopper Mark Bunn at the club for the rest of the season.
