Blackpool 1 Blackburn Rovers 2: match report
Up last on the highlights and well away from the likes of Didier Drogba and Cesc Fabregas, this is where Blackpool's season will be decided and this defeat will take some recovering from. Charlie Adam has always been pivotal to the efforts of Ian Holloway's side but, for once, it was his error that cost Blackpool, a back-header to Matt Gilks trickling into his own net from five yards. Once ahead, Blackburn were rarely troubled but they did have an anxious early spell at Bloomfield Road, with former non-league player Gary Taylor-Fletcher at the heart of the hosts' early work. He had a header deflected wide and then, from David Vaughan's corner, Ian Evatt's header was turned onto the bar by Michel Salgado. But Blackburn took the lead midway through the opening period. El-Hadji Diouf's cross was flicked on by Nikola Kalinic and, attempting to steer the ball back to Gilks, Adam headed past the goalkeeper and into his own net. Chris Samba saw a header come back off the post from Diouf's free kick and Blackburn should have made the game safe after the restart. Emerton's thumping effort was turned away by Gilks, who also saved from Phil Jones with his legs, while Blackpool's Brett Ormerod hit the side-netting from a narrow angle. Adam could have redeemed himself from Neal Eardley's cross but saw his header trickle across the goal line and wide before Paul Robinson denied Taylor-Fletcher and Adam. But Phillips beat Robinson with a low drive with five minutes remaining only for Emerton to fire in during stoppage time.
