Blackburn 3 Kitchee 0: match report

By Jason Burt, in Hong Kong 12:57PM BST 30 Jul 2011 Blackburn Rovers secured third place in the Asia Trophy with a victory over the Hong Kong champions, Kitchee, that was ultimately flattering but owed much to a fine display by David Dunn. The former England midfielder looked back to his best but the Blackburn team does look worryingly short of quality and numbers ahead of the Premier League campaign. It could be a long season or indeed a short one for manager Steve Kean without some significant additions before the transfer window closes. Earlier this week Blackburn had lost to Aston Villa, with Kitchee defeated by Chelsea. The two winners played out the final of this four-team competition immediately after the Blackburn game had finished. Blackburn should have fallen behind midway through the first-half when Steven N'zonzi's lay-off the Martin Olsson fell woefully short and Tsang Kam To stole possession only to be brought down by the defender. There were recriminations among the Blackburn players but they soon passed as Ubay Luzardo Santana skied the penalty kick. Before that and Roberto Losada Rodriguez another of Kitchee's Spanish players should have capitalised on another error, this time from Grant Hanley, who allowed the ball to bounce away from him. The Kitchee striker drove his shot straight at stand-in goalkeeper Mark Bunn. Related Articles
