Big Sam admits Salgado interest
Published : 13 Aug 2009 18:37:19
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce admits he is interested in signing Michel Salgado, but concedes he has no more funds to spend. Allardyce has been busy bringing in budget price signings this summer with only £6million striker Nikola Kalinic the only expensive recruit despite the £17million sale of Roque Santa Cruz to Man City. The former Bolton boss is no stranger to lack of funds having spent eight years at the Reebok working on a shoestring budget, and he admits money is tight at Ewood Park. "I and the chairman have had to satisfy the financial side of the club first and what we've got left we've tried to spend as well as we possibly can," he said. "It gets a little frustrating, but being in this position now for many, many years, I understand the financial plight of football clubs today in the Premier League. "You have to live with that and do the best with what you've got," he added. Despite the lack of transfer funds, Allardyce is hoping to wrap up a deal for free agent Salgado after the full-back was released by Real Madrid. "We've got no funds to spend any more money, we've been told by the chairman. The funds are all gone so we lie with the squad that we've got. "I would like to add Michel Salgado to that. I think he's an outstanding player of world class quality. That'll be the only one I want and after that no more. "He didn't come for a trial, he just came for a test, and the test was okay. "It lies obviously just with the financial side now which is hopefully going to be okayed by early next week. "There are one or two fringe players that we've had enquiries about and we may let them go but at the moment if what we've got is all we've got to go with, then I'm comfortable with that."
