Berner secures Rovers move
30 Jan 2007 - 09:31:08
Blackburn Rovers have made a fourth move into the January transfer market to snap up Switzerland defender Bruno Berner from FC Basel.
The 29-year-old left-back moves to Ewood Park for a small, undisclosed fee after impressing while on trial with Rovers.
Former Grasshoppers Zurich and Freiburg stopper Berner has signed an initial 18-month deal with Blackburn, with an option for a further year if he impresses.
Meanwhile, Watford midfielder Alhassan Bangura says he has apologised personally to Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage for the challenge that looks certain to have ended the Welshman's season prematurely.
Savage sustained a broken right leg during Rovers' 2-1 loss at Vicarage Road, with Bangura coming under fire from Blackburn boss Mark Hughes.
However, the Hornets youngster told the Daily Mirror: "I've called Robbie and apologised. I certainly didn't intend to hurt him.
"I was trying to win the ball and, when I called him to pass on my best regards, he said he accepted it."
