Benni admits Rovers doubts
08 Nov 2008 - 10:02:33
Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy has admitted he may have to leave Ewood Park in search of more regular first-team football.
McCarthy, 30, has started just two Premier League games since Paul Ince took the managerial reins during the summer.
The South Africa striker bagged 24 goals in his first season in English football during the 2006-07 campaign, but has had to be content with a place on the bench for most of the past 18 months.
"Obviously as a player you want to play, you always want to be in contention of playing because it becomes a habit," said the former FC Porto star.
"And when you are not playing you get frustrated and obviously you are going to look for opportunities elsewhere you know.
"Like I said, I will continue to work hard and if I get my chance I will try to take it with both hands and if I don't I will just continue working hard and at the end of the day, fate will decide whether I stay at Blackburn or leave.
"But at the moment I am just trying to really work hard by getting back to the way I know I can play and getting back to my old goalscoring habits.
"Once that comes and obviously given the opportunity then I will try to do my best, but if not then hopefully that means the end of me at Blackburn, then so be it."
