Benni absence disappoints Sam
26 Jan 2010 - 08:21:02
Striker Benni McCarthy has moved a step closer to joining West Ham United after failing to report for training with current club Blackburn Rovers.
In recent days the Hammers have submitted a written transfer offer for the South Africa striker believed to be in the region of £1.5million.
In the meantime, McCarthy has not turned up for Rovers training and his conduct has left manager Sam Allardyce disappointed.
"We have said all along that we will listen to offers, but only agree to sell if both the commercial and football reasons satisfy Blackburn Rovers. That situation remains unchanged," said Allardyce.
"We are very disappointed with Benni's non-appearance for training and will deal with it separately should he remain here after the transfer window has closed."
The former FC Porto striker scored 24 goals in his debut season in the Premier League during the 2006/7 campaign.
The 32-year-old has netted 11 and 13 goals in the two subsequent seasons after gradually dropping down the pecking order.
