    Allardyce plays down Guti link

    18 Jun 2010 - 13:49:02

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has admitted the signing of Guti from Real Madrid is not one of his summer priorities.

Guti, 33, is set to end his 15-year association with the Spanish giants when his contract expires next month.

The attacking playmaker is being tracked by a host of clubs across Europe keen to sign up such an experienced player on a free transfer.

But despite admitting his interest in Guti, Allardyce has revealed he has other priorities when it comes to strengthening his first-team squad before the start of the new season.

"Guti would be a player we would like to sign, there is no doubt about that," Allardyce told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"It has been fronted by (former Real and now Rovers full-back) Michel Salgado and it has been outstanding that a player like that would like to come to Blackburn. But a player in his position is not the priority at the moment.

"One of the stumbling blocks for me is (that) the priority is a front man and I am not so sure Mr Guti could wait for us to find a front man and see where we go from there.

"But that is the key thing for us to sign a front man and then look elsewhere after that."
