Allardyce facing double blow
01 May 2009 - 12:15:33
Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn will miss the closing weeks of the Premier League season after having to undergo an operation on an Achilles problem.
The 29-year-old, who has been plagued by injuries for much of his career, has featured mainly as a substitute in recent weeks, but has continued to be troubled both in matches and in training.
Rovers boss Sam Allardyce told the club's official website: "David Dunn this week has not been able to overcome the pain he's suffered over the last few weeks to continue to play.
"So we had to make the big decision to let him have his operation.
"It wasn't the same Achilles as last time, it's the other leg unfortunately, but we don't envisage that he'll be too long, but obviously now it is about getting him 100 per cent fit to start next pre-season."
Allardyce also admitted that he fears that Roque Santa Cruz could miss the remainder of the campaign due to a knee problem.
He added: "Personally I don't think that we'll see Roque.
"I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't like to lead anybody on that he might play before the end of the season. If he does that would be a bonus."
