Villanueva - Tough decision

Carlos Villanueva admits it was not easy to turn his back on English football after agreeing a deal with Dubai-based Al Shabab. The United Arab Emirates side have secured Villanueva's signature on a four-year deal after they completed a deal with his parent club Audax Italiano. Villanueva has spent all of this season on loan at Blackburn, and although impressing at certain points, he has failed to convince manager Sam Allardyce to extend his spell. With his international career in mind too, Villanueva has opted for regular first-team football. "My idea is to have more chances for playing more frequently and having the chance to play every week," he told Radio Agricultura. "If I do well I expect to have chances for being recalled to the national team and thinking I might have the chance of playing in the World Cup next year." The Chilean star does admit it is hard to leave England, "Obviously it hasn't been easy to take this decision because I was playing in the best league in the world and playing in England was a dream made true," he said. "It was very difficult to make this decision but I didn't have anything clear for the next season and I wasn't happy with the idea of having to return to Chile because I don't want to play there again."
