Tottenham Hotspur have knocked back a fresh approach from Blackburn Rovers to get permission to hold talks with Tim Sherwood over the manager's job that's on offer at Ewood Park.

It's not a great surprise, Tottenham have been saying all along that Rovers could go and take a running jump as they have plans for Sherwood themselves.

The 43-year-old was the captain of the Rovers side that lifted the Premiership title in 1995 and was a name that was more favoured by the fans than most others who have been mentioned.

spent seven successful years at Ewood Park during his playing days - captaining the club to Premier League title glory in 1995.

Sherwood has been part of the coaching set-up at Tottenham since October 2008 and is regarded as one of the brightest young coaches in the business.

Now Rovers must turn their attentions to another name that they could hope to have in place by Saturday.
