The Firing Line: Hammer time? Avram Grant continues to struggle in the Hammers hot seat

19 November 2010 00:20
That gap is getting bigger for West Ham. Three games unbeaten is not enough to stop them falling further off the pace as they now sit five points away from safety.[LNB]Avram Grant has been given the vote of confidence but how long can has he got? Just one win in 13 games is an abysmal record and barring some sort of minor miracle at Liverpool, it is set to become one in 14.[LNB]Mind you it seems a miracle in itself that Grant is still at the helm of the Hammers and Roy Hodgson is not as high as three on the list for no reason.[LNB] Thumbs up for now: But will defeat at Anfield be one too many for Avram Grant?[LNB]But he is not along when it comes to pressure, recent results have seen Roberto Mancini come under fire at Manchester City. One thing is for sure if he starts drawing too many games like Grant he will be facing the same exit door as his predecessor Mark Hughes. Roberto you have been warned.[LNB]Each week we bring you our latest chart of the managers underpressure, and those on Easy Street. Here's Sportsmail's sack-racerankings - otherwise known as the Firing Line...[LNB]1West Ham - Avram Grant Still bottom, still just one win and still under fire from his own fans. Draws are keeping him in a job but it's a testing trip to Liverpool up next, and safety is edging further away. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]2ManCity - Roberto Mancini Another goalless draw at home but this time to Birmingham sees even more pressure pile on Mancini. Negativity is creeping into his tactics and City look well out of sorts on the pitch. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]3Liverpool- Roy Hodgson Watched his side follow on from a poor ending at Wigan with an even worse performance at Stoke. Away form is a big problem for Hodgson but he seems to be improving at home. UP ONE[LNB][LNB] [LNB][LNB]4Wolves- Mick McCarthySame old story for Mick, his side are arguably the better side but finish the game with 'nil points'. Only goal difference is keeping Wolves off the bottom but McCarthy's side are due some luck. UP TWO[LNB][LNB][LNB]5Wigan- Roberto Martinez Just when the situation looks bleak, Martinez inspires his troops to an unexpected win, but he has never won two consecutive Premier League games. Manchester United next.  NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]6BirminghamCity - Alex McLeish His side are in the relegation zone and with star-man Alexander Hleb recently dropped, McLeish seems to be having trouble in getting his squad fired up. Chelsea next. UP ONE[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]7Newcastle - Chris Hughton Recent home from is among the worse in the league but Hughton has his side sitting pretty in the top-half and that should be enough to impress his superiorsfor now. DOWN THREE[LNB][LNB]8Blackburn- Sam Allardyce Unlucky to lose in the fashion they did at Tottenham after two straight wins. Another defeat though will see Big Sam's side slip back into a relegation fight. Wolves next. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]9Blackpool - Ian Holloway Another top result in drawing at West Ham but with the FA asking him to explain his team selection, will Holloway carry out his threat and walk out of the club in the near future? NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]10WestBromwich - Roberto Di Matteo Only the two bottom sides are on a worse run than West Brom and that early season form has disintegrated. The Italian still relatively new to management faces some testing times. UP TWO[LNB][LNB][LNB]11Fulham - Mark Hughes The draw specialist strikes again after a credible goalless stalemate at St James' Park. That's now eight for the season and the most in the Premier League. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB][LNB] 12Sunderland- Steve BruceBeating Chelsea away is up there with Bruce's best wins as a manger, but was it just a flash in the pan in regards to their away from? At home they remain decent with Everton next. DOWN TWO[LNB][LNB]13Stoke City - Tony Pulis Britannia Stadium remains a fortress after Liverpool became the latest rabbit to be caught in the headlights. However away form is abysmal and they travel to West Brom next. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]14Bolton - Owen Coyle Bolton go from strength to strength under Coyle but another win came with a warning as Wolves nearly snatched a draw from three goals down. Newcastle next. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB]15Aston Villa - Gerard Houllier Could only watch as his side home and hosed threw away a two goal lead against Manchester United. Signing 37-year-old wingers is not an orthodox move either. NON-MOVER[LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]16Everton - David Moyes Outplayed by Arsenal at Goodison Park, but despite a late revival sees his side just two points off safety. Pressure is off for now but a tricky trip to Sunderland awaits on Monday. UP ONE[LNB][LNB][LNB]17Tottenham- Harry RedknappFinally ended the four game winless run but failure to keep another clean sheet is a concern for Redknapp as his side take on free-scoring Arsenal in the north London derby next. DOWN ONE[LNB][LNB][LNB] [LNB]18Chelsea- Carlo AncelottiBad week for Ancelotti who saw the lead at the top of the table reduced to two points after Chelsea's heaviest defeat at home in over eight years. Big test of character coming up. NON-MOVER [LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB][LNB]19Arsenal- Arsene Wenger The form side in the league and in the north London derby faces a team he has never lost at home against. Could even see his young Gunners top by the end of the weekend. NON-MOVER[LNB]20Man United - Sir Alex FergusonSnatched a late draw at Villa but despite keeping their unbeaten record, have won once away from home. If that continues it will cost them the title. Fergie knows best though. NON-MOVER[LNB] Collision course: Ollie heading for trouble over Blackpool changesThe Firing Line: Grant me more time!
