A fee in excess of £2 million is said to have been agreed between the two Premier League rivals. Chimbonda was so desperate to leave Sunderland and return to the bright lights of London that he accepted a pay cut for his move to Tottenham in January. Chimbonda made just 16 appearances for Sunderland but spent much of his time in London before returning to White Hart Lane. Chimbonda won himself few friends when he turned his back on Wigan after handing in a transfer request following the season finale against Arsenal three years ago just months, after renegotiating a four-year deal at the JJB Stadium.
