The Premier League have approved Blackburn's initial £1.1million swoop for Sheffield United youngster Jordan Slew.

It was not certain if Rovers boss Steve Kean's swoop to take the 18-year-old forward to Ewood Park on transfer deadline day had gone through as it was very close to the 11pm cut-off point. However, the deal was rubber-stamped by the Premier League on Thursday evening and Slew has penned a four-year deal at Rovers with Kean delighted to add a player of real potential to his ranks having also snapped up defender Scott Dann and striker Yakubu on the same day.

He told Blackburn's official website: "He's an exciting young player. He will go into the elite development group that we have."We always look down the depth of the Academy and when we are short of quality then we go out and purchase and the owners have backed that plan."Sheffield United did not want to lose Slew, who came through the youth ranks at Bramall Lane and forced his way into the first team last season. But director Scott McCabe felt it was too good to turn down given that it could net the Blades more than £1.1million depending on other criteria. He said: "It was an attractive offer and one we were unable to refuse for what is, essentially, an unproven player."
