Santa Cruz tells Rovers: I'll stay if nobody offers £20m for me

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has intimated he would see out his contract at Ewood Park if no club matches the multi-million pound buy-out clause attached to him. The Paraguay international was the subject of a number of bids from Manchester City in January but Rovers, at the time involved in a relegation battle, stood firm. Manager Sam Allardyce could definitely use the money from any transfer of the 27-year-old to strengthen his squad this summer, but unless the buy-out clause - believed to be around £20million - is met he is likely to hold on to his most saleable asset. Santa Cruz, who missed the end of the season with a knee injury and has made no secret of his desire to leave, reluctantly accepts the opportunity to move on may not arise. 'A signed document stipulates that there is a lot of money to pay to take me away from Blackburn,' said Santa Cruz. 'If they don't want to sell me, then I must complete my contract and continue with them. I am under contract until 2012.'
