Sam - Shearer move a ploy

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce feels the appointment of Alan Shearer at Newcastle United is a 'ploy' to boost the struggling club.[LNB] Former Magpies striker Shearer was named as a short-term replacement for Joe Kinnear on Wednesday as the ex-Wimbledon chief recovers from a triple heart bypass.[LNB]The Tyneside outfit find themselves in the relegation zone ahead of Shearer's first game in charge at home against Chelsea on Saturday.[LNB]And ex-Newcastle manager Allardyce, who is overseeing Rovers' bid for survival, believes Shearer has been brought in as 'a troubleshooter'.[LNB]He said: "It's a ploy to try to spur the club on to get out of trouble.[LNB]Short-term fix"As the status of Alan Shearer at Newcastle is legendary, it will lift everybody at that football club.[LNB]"Alan will obviously be hoping his appointment does spur the players on to do better."[LNB]Asked whether Shearer had a better chance of succeeding than himself, Allardyce replied: "As a short-term fix, he has almost been brought in as a troubleshooter.[LNB]"It will be easier for him because of his status. The support from all at Newcastle will be 1,000% given their admiration for him.[LNB]"That is what a club like that, certainly the fans, will give him, and if he does get a performance out of the players, then it will have worked."[LNB]
