Blackburn have completed the signing of veteran full-back Michel Salgado on a two-year contract.
The Spaniard moves to Ewood Park as a free agent having been released by Real Madrid earlier this summer.
Salgado began his career at Celta Vigo and took in four years with Los Celestes before making a big-money move to Real.
Ten trophy-laden seasons followed at the Santiago Bernabeu as the buccaneering defender wrote his name into the Los Blancos history books.
During a memorable spell in the Spanish capital he helped Real to four league titles, three Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Champions League crowns, the Uefa Cup and the Intercontinental Cup .
He has also been capped 53 times by his country, appearing at the 2000 European Championships and 2006 World Cup.
Blackburn are waiting on international clearance before finalising his move to England, but he could be handed an immediate debut at Sunderland on Saturday.
Salgado is looking forward to starting his Premier League adventure, and has revealed that he chose to snub a number of offers from Spanish clubs in favour of Rovers because he could not face the prospect of playing against Real.
"I achieved everything that I wanted to there," he told Onda Cero radio station.
"I had no desire to play against Real Madrid and I hope that I do not have to throughout the rest of my career.
"If I have to, then it will be in Europe and it would be very difficult for me.
"Should Blackburn qualify for the Champions League then I hope that we do not play against Real Madrid."
Salgado has also spoken of his desire to see out his playing days at Ewood Park.
"I have joined an historic club that was one of the founders of the league. They ticked many of the boxes I wanted," he continued.
"I did not want to stay in the Spanish league. I spent ten years
with Real Madrid and I did not want to play against them.
"But also I am going to play in one of the best leagues in the world. This is football in it's purest state and is different to Spain. Above all the atmosphere in the stadia can be spectacular.
"It is a league that I am going to enjoy playing in to finish my career."
