Rovers' Vieri invite still open

Sam Allardyce says an offer for Christian Vieri to continue training with Blackburn Rovers remains on the table. Vieri recently joined up with the Rovers squad in Austria as the veteran Italian striker searches for a new club after leaving Atalanta. He was expected to link up with Allardyce's men again for the tour of Italy and Croatia, but did not turn up at the training camp. However, while Allardyce concedes it is still a 'long shot' that Vieri will secure a deal at Ewood Park, the Rovers boss is happy to give the 36-year-old another chance to prove his fitness. "When we assessed Christian from the Austrian trip, he was not in the right condition to consider for games," Allardyce told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. "We will weigh that up when we get back and if he wants to come and we feel it is right for the club then he could still join us for the last month. "We will see what he wants to do and whether we think we can get him to the level to make a stab at it in the Premier League. "If he can, then brilliant, if not then it was always a long shot."
